Snoring Treatment in McComb, MS

Injection Snoreplasty (IS) is a snoring treatment used to stop snoring. The procedure uses a special medicine put into the roof of the mouth using a needle. This treatment was first done in 2000 by army doctors. While this can effectively make snoring less loud and less frequent, the treatment is not for everyone who snores.

What Do I Need to Know Before Getting Injection Snoreplasty (IS)?

Before your doctor administers the treatment, you will need to undergo a sleep test first. Snoring can sometimes be a symptom of a more serious condition called sleep apnea which is characterized by repeated cycles of breathing pauses during sleep. If this is what you are diagnosed with, you will need a different treatment.

How Does Injection Snoreplasty Treatment Work?

Injection Snoreplasty is a simple treatment. First, your care provider will numb the roof of your mouth. Then, they will inject a small dose of a special medicine into the skin of the roof of your mouth. This results in a small blister which will harden in a couple of days after administering the medicine and will reduce the snoring. In some cases, the injection needs to be done more than once for the best results. If your snoring persists or if you’re diagnosed with sleep apnea, your doctor will recommend a different treatment.

What is Aftercare Like for Injection Snoreplasty Treatment?

After the treatment, you might feel some soreness in the injection site. Your doctor might recommend over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications and throat lozenges to manage the post-treatment discomfort. As the injection site heals and hardens over the next few days, you might still snore but this should reduce as it heals. You might undergo another sleep test to see how the treatment worked for your case.

Are there Side Effects to Injection Snoreplasty Treatment?

After the treatment, you might suffer from a sore throat or feel like something is stuck in your throat. There might be some discomfort as well. You can use over-the-counter medications and throat lozenges for this.

Is Snoring a Health Issue?

Snoring is common for many people. According to John Hopkins Medicine, about 45% of adults snore occasionally while an estimated 25% of adults do it regularly. Snoring, especially when loud and consistent throughout the night, can keep others awake while some severe cases can be a sign of an underlying health issue.

People snore because air can’t move freely through the back of the mouth and nose due to blocked airways. This blockage causes vibration in the area, resulting in a snoring sound.

Snoring is usually mild, normal, and harmless. However, frequent snoring that leads to disrupted sleep may be the result of an underlying condition called sleep apnea. Additionally, long-term excessive snoring can increase health risks like stroke and heart attack.

Snoring can also lead to:

  • Brain fog
  • High blood pressure
  • Hypoxia, or lower blood oxygen levels
  • Daytime fatigue

Sleep apnea may also be a symptom of hypertension or type-2 diabetes.

What are the Best Treatment Options for Snoring?

Injection Snoreplasty as a treatment for snoring is not for everyone. There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all snoring treatment. The best treatment option will depend on each individual’s needs and symptoms.

At Southwest Mississippi, we help our patients get to the bottom of their snoring issues and we align treatment options based on their unique needs and preferences.

IS is not the only way you can deal with snoring. There are also other options including:

  • Dental services
  • Lifestyle changes
  • Changes in your diet
  • Surgical options

There are several treatment options to choose from. While some go the lifestyle changes route, some prefer laser treatments on the roof of their mouths or targeted radio waves to shrink tissues in the mouth or throat.

It is crucial to consult with your doctor first to come up with the best solution for your problems. Schedule a consultation with Southwest Mississippi today and find out how we can help.
