Skin cancer develops when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably in the skin. It primarily affects the outermost layers of skin (epidermis and dermis), with the most common areas being the head, neck, and ears—areas that an ENT specialist often treats. There are three main types of skin cancer:
- Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC): Often occurs on the face, ears, or scalp. These may appear as pearly bumps or scar-like lesions.
- Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC): Typically appears on the face, ears, or lips, and may look like a firm red nodule or scaly lesion.
- Melanoma: A more aggressive form of skin cancer that can develop anywhere on the skin but is frequently seen on the head or neck.
