Treating Chronic Rhinitis

Can’t Stop Sneezing? Got an Itchy, Runny Nose?

You’ve got typical symptoms of Rhinitis, an inflammation of the mucous membranes in your nasal passages. You may also develop additional symptoms of nasal irritation, congestion, and post nasal drip. Some Rhinitis sufferers even find it hard to sleep because of their nasal discomfort

If you experience these symptoms often, you may be suffering from Chronic Rhinitis. Numerous things can cause your symptoms. Some are allergic sources, and some are considered non-allergic.

Symptoms of Chronic Rhinitis

Allergic Rhinitis

occurs when your immune system becomes sensitized to non-infectious particles such as plant pollens, molds, dust mites, animal dander, as well as certain foods and medicines. When you encounter these substances, your immune system responds as if they are harmful and triggers the release of histamine into mucous membranes, the lungs, and skin. As a result, your blood vessels dilate and cause swelling and redness. If the reaction occurs in your nasal passages, your nose becomes itchy, runny, and congested from the irritation, and you begin to sneeze.

Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis

is commonly referred to as “hay fever,” although it’s caused by more than just “hay.”

  • Late March or early April is a common time for allergic reactions from tree pollens.
  • Late spring or summer symptoms are usually due to ragweed, the main cause of Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis.
  • October and November are common months for allergic rhinitis caused by mold spores in fallen leaves.

Perennial Allergic Rhinitis

has no season. It occurs from exposure to year-round allergic sources – things like pet hair, houseplants, carpeting, upholstery, mold on wallpaper, and even components in air pollution.

Non-Allergic Rhinitis

is considered a vasomotor response to irritants rather than an immune response. Your symptoms may be similar to those of Allergic Rhinitis, except for the itchiness, but the sources of your reaction and the responses to treatment are usually different. It can be difficult to distinguish Non-Allergic from Allergic Rhinitis. Sometimes, the non-allergic form can be confirmed only after therapy for typical allergy triggers has been unsuccessful. Common sources of Non-Allergic Rhinitis are cigarette smoke and air pollutants as well as strong odors, alcoholic beverages, cold temperature, and rebound reaction from over-use of medications such as decongestant spray.

Symptoms of Chronic Rhinitis

Effectiveness – ClariFix® Cryotherapy takes a different approach to treating Chronic Rhinitis. Cryotherapy gets to the root of the problem – the inflamed nasal tissue and the underlying nerves.

Long-Lasting Relief
– ClariFix® Cryotherapy can provide long-term symptom relief from Chronic Rhinitis. In a clinical study, 4 out of 5 people reported long-lasting improvement with ClariFix® therapy, including a reduction in runny nose and nasal congestion.1

Safety and Convenience
– ClariFix® Cryotherapy is a safe in-office procedure and takes less than 30 minutes. Using endoscopy, Dr. Pippin will place a small cryotherapy balloon in your nasal passage to quickly freeze the area responsible for rhinitis symptoms. Now, you no longer need to rely on those oral or nasal medications that fail to work.

ClariFix®- the clinically-proven, minimally invasive option for treating Chronic Rhinitis.

Southwest Mississippi Ear, Nose & Throat’s specialists are continually striving to offer you the most advanced, effective, and convenient treatment options available.

RhinAer®

Having used RhinAer for many years, Dr. Pippin is very familiar with the benefits of the RhinAer treatment for chronic rhinitis sufferers. RhinAer is a minimally invasive procedure that provides long lasting relief from rhinitis. It will allow you to avoid surgery, avoid long recovery times, and breathe easily again.

How does the RhinAer procedure work?

During a RhinAer procedure, the function of your posterior nasal nerve will be disrupted. This is done by inserting a tiny flexible tube into the nasal passage that emits radiofrequency energy. This energy disrupts the nerve which can lead to less mucus production.‍

The results speak for themselves.

After the procedure you can expect:

  • Long lasting relief
  • Less runny nose
  • A reduction in postnasal drip occurrence
  • A decrease in coughing
  • An overall life improvement
